Too Young to Sign?

We're often asked this question "My son is 4 months old now, will it be too young for him to join the WeeHands class?".

Typically babies in our WeeHands Signing Babies I classes are between 5 months and 9 months of age when they start a class. The youngest baby I've had in a class was 3 weeks old though...this was one mom with a lot of energy!

Babies will typically sign back between 7 and 11 months of age, but you will see that your baby shows that he understands when you sign to him by reacting to the signs you show him, e.g., getting excited when you sign BATH or calming down when you sign MILK.

Keep in mind that you can start signing at any time with your little one, so when you start a class is up to you, your WeeHands instructor's class schedule and your baby's schedule.  If your hesitant at all, feel free to contact your local WeeHands Instructor to schedule a time that you can come preview a class.  Anyone can preview a WeeHands class, it's free and we'd love to meet you and your wee one!

We used baby signs (or are own version of it!) with both our girls and definitely started getting them familiar with seeing the signs before they were able to copy them. It was great to be able to communicate with them with signs before they were able to verbalize their thoughts.
